FSE Mill Load Out Project

The Load-Out project at the Feed Mill is in the final stages! On July 19th and 20th the team at the Farm Service Elevator Mill started filling the new bins with feed.  They spent the week of July 22nd test loading and dialing everything in to where it needed to be.

For those of you who weren’t here when this project began, or need a refresher, the intent of the load out project is to give FSE the ability to blend different feeds as they are being loaded onto the feed trucks.  This will increase the amount of diets that can be fed to the turkeys. The load out process will also be completely autonomous. Every feed truck will be equipped with GPS that will alert the mill when they are 3 miles away so they can start blending and scaling up the feed. Once the truck arrives, a RFID code on the side of each trailer will confirm the trailer is in the new bay and the load out scale will automatically start filling the feed trailer saving time for the delivery fleet which adds more efficiency.

According to Mike HeidemanFeed Mill Superintendent, “Trucks are currently being loaded in 5 minutes or less, which is about 1/2 the time as it was before.” He said they have also begun the blending part and have currently been using Willmar Poultry Farms as a test subject. This has been going well and they are looking at switching all other customers over on Monday, August 12th!

Open House

The Select Genetics Administration office moved into a new office space on Friday, June 28th.  The move was coordinated by Matt Baumgartner and Dan Tait who handled a lot of the transporting of file cabinets and office equipment from the old location to the new location.

The new office is located on the 3rd floor of cottage 1709 on the MinnWest Campus (address: 1709 16th Street NE, Willmar).  For people who haven’t had a chance to stop-in to see the new space, an open house is being planned for Wednesday, September 4th from 2-5PM.  Stop by then to enjoy refreshment, visit with the employees, and check out their new digs!
