Fun Fact
The tradition of presenting the White House with a turkey at Thanksgiving started in 1947 with President Harry S. Truman. At that time, the birds were consumed as a part of the Thanksgiving meal. President George H.W. Bush granted the first official presidential pardon to his bird in 1989, and since that time, presidential pardons are the norm. In 2011, Rick Huisinga, as Chairman of the National Turkey Federation, presented the President and his family with a turkey raised within our family of companies. We affectionately referred to them at Ted and Ray but they were officially named Liberty and Peace.
