Grants & Goats!

Hello,

We have an exciting update from the Chief Operating Officer of Syntiron, Lisa Herron-Olson:

“Syntiron was awarded a research grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to develop an iron receptor vaccine to prevent urinary tract infections caused by E. coli in humans. Urinary tract infections are the most common bacterial infection of humans in the United States, exerting a substantial negative impact on health care costs that is estimated at $2.4 billion annually. Although E. coli is known to be the primary cause of disease, no vaccine is currently available, and antibiotics are becoming less effective due to resistant bacteria. The Principal Investigator of the project is Drew Catron, who joined Syntiron in 2007 and is currently the Senior Scientific Director. The entire Syntiron team was involved in the assembly and submission of the application, and its success was a major achievement in the highly competitive NIH funding program. Work has already begun, and is anticipated to continue for approximately two years.”

Tessa Duncombe, Quality Control Lab Tech for Ag Forte, has a great employee appreciation story to share:

“For the past 7 weeks many of the employees at Foley have been working on Wednesdays to re-tray eggs that were being shipped in boxes. We have improvised, modified and adapted to accomplish a task that is not a part of our normal routine. We sincerely appreciate all of the extra hours our employees have worked!”

While we are on the topic of employee appreciation – Congratulations to Kristi DeGree on her recent promotion to Corporate Training & PR Specialist! Since joining the company two years ago, Kristi has done an outstanding job in training and took on more responsibility with employee development and public relations over the past few months. She is our main contact at LSI for any media relations or inquiries.
