Farewell Mr. Rogers

Bryce

We are sad to announce that Bryce Berg has accepted a position with FedEx and will soon be leaving our company.  Bryce has served as our Company Jet Prop Pilot, and as Global Planning Manager for Ag Forte.  He and his wife Elizabeth will be relocating to the Memphis area where Bryce has accepted the position of Senior Business Analyst, Fleet Planning Department, Air Operations Division.  Bryce has been with Ag Forte since May, 2012.  His sense of responsibility and attention to detail has served him well in his role as pilot and in his planning position with Ag Forte.  His presence will be missed, yet our thoughts will be with him as he takes on the new challenges of a new career.  Thank you Bryce for many safe trips on the plane, for the many hours spent looking at flow charts, and for being a good friend. I am also happy that it was you who set the new speed record (433 mph) on our last flight on the plane together!  We wish you the best!

Sincerely,
Kevin Lynch
VP of Operations
Ag Forte

In case you didn’t have the chance to work with Bryce, you may know him from the recent LSI Christmas Party. He is the tall guy on stage 2nd from the right who they referred to as “Mr. Rogers” and “Olaf.” Watch video below again to refresh your memory:

TEDx Willmar 2016

TEdx

Last week, our campus was the host site to a third annual TEDx event, a locally-organized event built around the TED culture of “Ideas Worth Spreading.” Pictured is Betsy Bonnema from WorkUp on the campus, who is ‘Chief Organizer’ and founder of #TEDxWillmarLive. This year focused on Dreams Worth Spreading, where several participants of the event shared their personal goals and dreams on the TED stage!  Betsy plans to continue this annual event and welcomes our campus employees to check it out next year!

So what the heck is TED???  TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world.

TED Talks cover countless, diverse topics and are great to listen to if you need a little inspiration or seek a deeper understanding about a particular subject!  Yep, there’s an app for TED too!  Check out https://www.ted.com/

Meet & Greet for Elaina O’Neill

Tim3diaper-cake

On February 25th, at approximately 12:27pm a curious man, possibly an LSI employee, was sighted outside of the Life Center building on the MinnWest Technology Campus in Willmar, MN carrying a mysteriously large pink package.

After further investigation our team of skilled investigators determined the man was indeed a LSI IT employee by the name of Tim Starkenburg. Turns out the wrapped package was a gift for Jeanna O’Neill in honor of her new baby girl Elaina. Later that day a Meet and Greet was put on by the HR ladies, Julie Andres, Jayme Starkenburg, Jenn Baumgartner, and Brianna Huisinga for Jeanna and Elaina O’Neill.  Everyone enjoyed meeting Elaina and all the sweet treats.

Jayme Starkenburg, wife of the alleged pink package parking lot perpetrator, made the diaper cake herself. Image featured at right.

Turkey Recipes & Tips!

This recipe is brought to us by Dann French of Ag Forte:

Turkey Gumbo

Ingredients:

  • 1  cup plus 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped onions
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1 cup chopped bell peppers
  • salt
  • cayenne
  • 1 pound smoked sausage, such as andouille or kielbasa, cut crosswise into 1/2 inch slices
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 6 cups turkey stock
  • leftover turkey meat, about 3 to 4 cups
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onions
  • 1 tablespoon file powder
  • 2 cups cooked long grain white rice

Directions

  • In a Dutch oven, over medium heat, combine the oil and flour and stirring slowly and constantly for 20 to 25 minutes, make a dark brown roux, the color of Chocolate. Add the onions, celery, and Bell Pepper and continue to stir for 4-5 minutes, or until wilted. Season with salt and pepper. Add the sausage and bay leaves. Continue to stir for 3 to 4 minutes. Add the stock. Stir until the roux mixture and stock are well combined. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low. Cook, uncovered, stirring occasionally, for 1 hour. Add the turkey. Simmer for 2 hours. Skim off any fat that rises to the surface. Remove from the heat . Stir in the parsley and green onions. Remove the bay leaves and serve in deep bowls with rice.

I have added different vegetables to this and it is just as good. Okra, zucchini, corn, red beans, ……etc.
