April Showers

As you can see from the pictures above Minnesota has been experiencing some crazy weather over the past month.  Around March 15th temperatures were warming up, snow was melting, roads were flooding (from the quick thaw) and spring was in sight.  By March 28th the snow was nearly gone and people were venturing out without their coats…and then another snow “shower” hit that included rain, sleet and even some thunder and lightening.  Ironically, April 8th-12th was Severe Weather Awareness week in Minnesota, which brings awareness about flooding, tornadoes, and extreme heat, but not snow.

This is a great reminder for all of us that weather can be unpredictable.  While we can’t always avoid severe weather we can plan and prepare for when emergency situations do occur.  All locations should have an emergency plan in place for severe weather.  If you are unaware of what you should do in the event of an emergency, check with your manager or HR representative for more information.

Select Genetics Training

OSHA required safety, harassment, and FMLA training has been happening at several of the Select Genetics locations and more will be occurring in the coming months.  Dan Tait, SEL Global Safety Manager and members of the SEL HR Team, Sonia Valenciano, Susan Mathias and Bridgid Bowers, have been leading the training sessions along with on-site managers and support staff.

FSE Feed Mill

Work at the feed mill continues.  Below are a few pictures of the progress being made.

Direct Deposit

The Select Genetics HR staff recently held a competition between locations to see who could convert the most employees over to direct deposit.  With the weather we have been experiencing this winter it can cause uncontrollable disruptions in the delivery of weekly paychecks.  While it is not a requirement for employees to be enrolled in direct deposit, it does help to ensure employees checks are deposited in their accounts in a timely manner.  Dianne Hammond at the North Carolina office had the highest enrollment converting 80% of employees from paper checks to direct deposit.  Sabrina and Virginia in Missouri were runners-up encouraging 7 employees to make the switch.
