April Update

Members of the Select Genetics Osceola Hatchery team took time to view the solar eclipse on Monday, April 8th.  While they weren’t in the path of totality they were able to view about 85% coverage around 1:58pm.  Pictured above are team members Sabrina Hatfield (Service Supervisor), Gaby Zamora (Hatch Supervisor), and Misty Williams (HR Coordinator).  Some fun facts TIME.com published on the 2024 solar eclipse:

  1. The total eclipse starts in the Pacific Ocean and ends in the Atlantic.
  2. Mexico will see the longest totality during the eclipse. (Side note: the Select Genetics hatchery in Terre Haute, IN was in the path of totality!)
  3. More people currently live in the path of totality compared to the last eclipse.
  4. A part of the sun which is typically hidden will reveal itself.
  5. The sun will be near its more dramatic solar maximum.
  6. Two planets – and maybe a comet – could also be spotted.
  7. The eclipse can cause a “360-degree sunset”
  8. The temperature will drop.
  9. Wildlife may act differently.
  10. There will be a long wait for the next total eclipse in the U.S. (the next eclipse in the 48 contiguous states is expected to occur on August 12, 2044).

Focus on Safety

PALS commitment to safety extends beyond compliance; it’s a reflection of their core value of Employee Wellbeing, aimed at creating a safe and healthy work environment that facilitates the wellbeing of each employee from a whole-life perspective.  Over the past two years, PALS has not had a single employee miss time because of an injury!  In recognition of this accomplishment, employees were awarded with gift cards from Cub Foods.

While this is cause for celebration, there is always work to be done!  Most recently PALS completed their warehouse light project which helped to drastically improve visibility in this space.  According to Kelly Peterson, Office Manager, “For the first time in forever…we can actually see in the north block of the warehouse at PALS!”

Spotlight on Benefits

***NOTE: You will not receive a new card and your current UMB debit card will continue to be active throughout the system migration.
