Ben Wileman Honored for Extraordinary Efforts During Avian Influenza:

“The Presidents of the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association (MTGA) and Minnesota Turkey Research and Promotion Council (MTRPC) have chosen to honor five worthy individuals for their extraordinary efforts before, during, and after the highly pathogenic avian influenza crisis of 2015.” 

Our very own Ben Wileman, Director of Global Tech Services for LSI, was recently featured in Minnesota Turkey for receiving the 2016 President’s Award for his amazing work and effort during the avian influenza outbreak of 2015.

Minnesota Turkey wrote:

MTRPC President Robert Orsten of Wilmar, Minn., presented his 2016 President’s Award to three veterinarians who were instrumental in helping Minnesota’s turkey industry respond to each and every challenge the HPAI outbreak threw at them:  Dr. Michelle Kromm, Jennie-O Turkey Store; Dr. Jill Nezworski, Blue House Veterinary; and Dr. Ben Wileman, Willmar Poultry Company.

“These individuals lived the HPAI outbreak on a broader and deeper scale than probably anyone else,” said Orsten. “These three were charged with preventing infections, and if a farm became infected they were crucial in the response. They were experts in bird health going in to the outbreak, and now they are experts in emergency response to a catastrophic disease event. They led the creation of industry-driven prevention and control plans, and their input helped improve response for Minnesota’s poultry farmers and to future HPAI introductions.”

Congratulations Ben! We appreciate all your hard work and dedication! Hopefully you wont be ringing that bell of yours anytime soon.

 

Welcome Communications and Marketing Intern Danielle Norling!

 

Danielle Norling joined the HR – Organizational Development team on Monday, July 11th as a communications and marketing intern reporting to Mike Bregel. You may have met her already or have even worked with her on a project. Danielle is finishing up a degree in marketing and recently moved back to MN from Orange County CA. She is bringing a lot of creative energy and fresh ideas to the team and helping out with designing flyers, revamping orientation materials and even working on a recruiting video. Presidential Turkey Candidates

On Monday, July 18 we hatched the presidential turkey candidates out of the Willmar Hatchery. The candidates were handpicked from our very own Sunwest breeder flock (pics of the crew and selected poults are featured below). Sunwest was chosen to supply as the breeder flock based on its outstanding quality and performance. The turkey will be raised by one of our premier customers and taken to Washington DC in November to be pardoned by President Obama.

Farewell John Henrich

John Henrich, Farms Supervisor(Serviceman) for Willmar Poultry Farms, is leaving the company after almost 30 years. Take care John!

Recruiting Corner

In addition to filling a number of opportunities over the past couple of weeks, I decided to browse through the LSI Training & Development library and checked out this box set of Chick-fil-A Leadercast Series CD’s.  WOW!  The speakers and messages I listened to on my commutes to and from work daily were so inspiring and fun!  I took away some great work and life lessons (while laughing out loud) from leaders in organizations I had heard about, and some I hadn’t. The leadership culture that we’re diligently working on within our organization is more important than perhaps some of us realize.  We’re ALL responsible for being great leaders and role models no matter what our title is!  Our organization could not continue to grow and sustain without people who demonstrate leadership EVERY DAY –  even when we’re doing something that seems so small and simple.
