August / September Update

LSI Shared Services Summit

In August, LSI Shared Services brought together its entire team for a dynamic 2-day Summit filled with connection, collaboration, and growth. The event offered a rare and valuable opportunity for all employees to engage face-to-face, explore the diverse functions within Shared Services, and dive into impactful professional development sessions.

A highlight of the Summit was the Customer Panel, where Emily Field, Nova-Tech Engineering; Chuck Patton, Turkey Valley Farms; Sam Williams, Select Genetics; and Jordan Geurtz, Farm Service Elevator generously shared insight into their operations, helping us better understand the needs and perspectives of those we serve. We were also inspired by thought-provoking presentations from internal presenters and external guest speakers Kit Welchlin, Jerrid Sebesta, and Kristy Nystrom, who brought fresh ideas and energy to the conversation.

The Summit concluded on a high note with the presentation of our Shared Services Value Awards, recognizing team members who exemplify our core values. Congratulations to:

  • Rachel Weiss, Employee Wellbeing Award
  • Kole Winters, Stewardship Award
  • Pam Schlagel, Communication/Collaboration Award
  • Amanda Harris, Excellence Award
  • Christy Bjornberg, Trustworthiness Award

These awards were based on peer nominations and selected by the LSI Leadership Team. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the Shared Services Summit a meaningful and memorable experience for everyone!

COE Interns Tour Osceola Hatchery

Each year, students participating in COE internships through the Midwest Poultry Consortium, hosted by Iowa State University, visit the Select Genetics Osceola hatchery for an educational tour. This year, the group consisted of 18 students and 2 instructors. The hatchery team welcomed them with Select Genetics swag and captured a group photo outside the facility before their departure. Jeff Bonner, Hatchery Manager, and Misty Williams, Assistant Hatchery Manager, led the students through a detailed and engaging tour of the hatchery. The students expressed genuine appreciation for the staff’s time and enjoyed the opportunity to experience the hatchery operations firsthand.

Fun Fact: One of this year’s interns, Adriana (Adri) Behl, is the daughter of Michelle Behl, Director of Poult Quality at Select Genetics. Adri was thrilled to visit the hatchery her mom frequently works with and was also featured in the Midwest Poultry Consortium’s August Newsletter, where she shared highlights from her summer internship with Select Genetics.

The Midwest Poultry Consortium is proudly supported by its members to advance the poultry industry through research, education, and talent development.

Terre Haute Summer Picnic

The team members at the Select Genetics Terre Haute hatchery had a fantastic time at this year’s summer picnic! From great food to fun games and laughter, it was a wonderful opportunity to relax and connect with colleagues and their families. Here are a few snapshots captured from the event.
