Strive for Excellence

“Excellence is never an accident; it is the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, skillful execution and the vision to see obstacles as opportunities.”  Anonymous

Did you catch the big game Sunday night?  With the Super Bowl being held in Minnesota this year it was the hot news story for most of the week.  Though, I have a feeling, Vikings fans were more excited for the events going on in Minneapolis during the week than they were for the game.  If you tuned in to the game (or caught some of it between the commercial breaks) you may have seen excellence in action.  As an organization we also strive for excellence within our affiliates and our teams.

As one of the values chosen by the LSI Senior Leadership Team, they defined Excellence as “our uncompromising drive to be the best.”  They further described it as:

  • Excellence takes our innovative ideas, and fuses that creativity with the people and resources to push thought into reality.
  • Executing our best practices consistently over time will yield superior results.
  • We expect our employees to bring their best to work every day.
  • We will not rest on our laurels and be content with where we are today.

We aren’t playing on a big stage like the Super Bowl but we do all have a part to play in our organizations to help them succeed.  Let’s all strive to embrace the value of excellence in our work!  If you have an example of excellence in action or any of our other values being demonstrated, I’d love to hear those stories and possibly feature them in a future update.

Congratulations!

Last week at IPPE in Atlanta, Willis Cooan (pictured second from left), National Sales Manager for Turkey Valley Farms, was recognized by NPFDA as their Member of the Year.  The National Poultry & Food Distributors Association (NPFDA), provides unique networking opportunities where members can exchange ideas and discuss challenges and opportunities facing the poultry and food industries.  Congratulations Willis on your award!

Spotlight on Benefits

Qualifying Event Benefits Change

If you are a benefits-eligible employee and have a qualifying event like marriage or divorce, birth or adoption of a child, or loss of coverage, you must complete a Qualifying Event Benefits Change form and submit to the Human Resources department within 30 days of the event for the coverage to become effective on the event date.  In the event of a child’s birth, do not wait until you receive the birth certificate or social security card to submit the paperwork for coverage.  Immediately provide the completed form to Human Resources and we will follow up at a later date to retrieve the additional information.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Kim Mason-Welle or Julie Andres in our Human Resources office.
