August Update

Summer Fun

The team at Life-Science Innovations enjoyed a sweltering evening at a Stinger’s game the end of July.  The food was delicious and it was a close game up until the very end when the Stinger’s fell by 1 to the Minnesota Mud Puppies.  Employees along with their families had a great time cheering on the Stinger’s and connecting with their co-workers.

Select Genetics Turkey School

The Missouri Breeder Division hosted a farm manager Turkey School meeting the beginning of August. Several topics were presented to stimulate conversation and pass on strategies for managing turkey breeder flocks. Scott Nolan (Breeder Manager) discussed turkey breeder management basics. Fred Lee (Service Tech) and Jonathon Buckle (Service Tech) co-presented on hot weather ventilation after attending a ventilation seminar at the University of Arkansas. David Cordel (Maintenance Supervisor) lead a discussion on electrical circuits and how they power farm equipment.  He also brought in a unique display of different circuits found on Missouri farms for hands on learning. Finally, Dr. Jake Carlson (Division Veterinarian) presented on water line sanitation and the importance of using electrolytes in turkey breeders during periods of heat stress and Eric Hagedon (Missouri General Manager) covered topics related to farm labor and cost.

The Missouri division aims to hold manager turkey school meetings quarterly to discuss topics that are pertinent to managing turkey breeders and to increase farm manager engagement and learning.
