Excellence!

It is always an honor to showcase success. Today we have a wonderful example of how outstanding members of our company live out our values in their work.

When a farm is infected with HPAI a crew comes out to depopulate the birds to prevent the spread of the disease. Generally these farms, under USDA guidance, utilize contracted crews to humanely euthanize infected sites. Farm owners can request specific people or crews to do this.  We have our own recently assembled depop crews, and according to local farmers, our teams seem to be quite sought after.

Recently, 3 separate farm owners have specifically asked for the Willmar Poultry crews. There have been comments about how good they are to work with, that they are friendly, efficient, and easy going. An owner even mentioned that it looked like our crew was actually having fun.

One Farm owner was talking to our North Division Breeder Operations Manager, Ziggy Kotze, over the phone and said:

“Your crew did very well.  They knew how to handle birds and your 12 guys probably did as much or more in the one day as the other crew of 30+ people did in three times as long.”

It is reported that our team takes less breaks and are much more motivated to complete the job, all while having little to no previous experience with this particular de caging process.

Another owner stated, “the reason our farms went so quick was because your guys new what they were doing.”

Our small team did 1 barn of 130,000 birds in 31 hours. These guys are surely a prime example of our value of Excellence. Thank you for representing our company well! The above photo features a portion of our fantastic crew.

LSI Research & Development

topsecret

Shawn Engstrom, LSI R&D Manager is pictured above with Rick Vanderspek and Ted Huisinga after examining the brand new proprietary baskets that LSI has been developing over the past few years.

Our tiny LSI R&D Engineering team has been working hard on a solution to improve our turkey brooding performance for over 2.5 years now. This group has progressed beyond anything the industry has attempted and are now in the final stages of patenting their final product and the processes that make the whole thing work. The most recent version of injection-molded prototype baskets were just received here in Willmar. Over the next few weeks, additional baskets will be manufactured in China and shipped to the U.S. along with the proprietary mold that our R&D team has designed. Very soon, large-scale trials will begin and we are excited to see where these efforts lead us in the future! As soon as we have patent protection, we’ll provide a full overview of the people, process and designs that have made this success possible. For now, we’ll leave you with a teaser picture and you can use your imagination from there as to why these guys are smiling.

Turkey Recipes & Tips!

karenfoodWe are going to do the unthinkable and stray away from turkey this week. Since we have a good number of Karen people in our family of affiliated companies it would be a great opportunity to check out some authentic karen cooking. We asked Nuno Roland, HR Services Recruiter/Karen Translator, if he had any recipes on hand. He admitted to not being much of a cook but offered some images & names of common Karen meals and says that Burmese, Tai and Karen have very similar food because of their proximity and mix of culture. Here is an article we found detailing the variety of food of the Burmese people:  An introduction to the food of Myanmar. Myanmar, known as Burma until changed in 1988, is the country Karen people primarily reside.

It was hard to narrow down a specific recipe but lets go with:

Som Tam (Thai papaya salad).
